A new trail to connect the Richard E. McDowell Trail at the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford with downtown is beginning to get underway. As presently envisioned the trail would begin at the trailhead on Campus Drive and go to Hanley Park on Davis Street. The exact route is still not determined. The existing railroad tracks at the north end of Hanley Park once extended to what is now Campus Drive and this would be an excellent way however some of the land has changed ownership since the rails were abandoned. As a result a suitable route will need to be found where right-of-ways may be obtained. To accomplish this the Board has approved a request for proposal be sent out to establish a conceptual design. Work under the contract will establish the trail alignment and right-of-ways, initial surveying and other work necessary before a complete design of the trail can get underway.

We plan to keep this page updated with information about progress toward establishing the Community Parks Trail.
